ANNANADLE-ON-HUDSON, NY—The Union College men's tennis team had a near perfect start to the 2016-17 season, notching back-to-back 8-1 wins against Bard and Mount Saint Mary on Saturday.

In their opening match against the Raptors, the Dutchmen (2-0) swept doubles play to open a 3-0 lead. First-year David Bond, who paired with Max McGeown for an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles, added his second win of the day at No. 1 singles, cruising to a 6-1, 6-4 victory.

Union kept rolling in singles play dropping a combined four games from  No.3 to No. 6 singles, including a 6-0, 6-0 win by Del Schunk at No. 3 and a 6-0, 6-1 victory by McGeown at No. 4

In its second match of the day against Mount Saint Mary, Union pulled out to another 3-0 lead after doubles. Bond and McGeown battled to a 9-8 (7-1) win at No. 1, David Brown and John Shanley earned an 8-6 win at No. 2 and Justin Gold and Schunk made quick work of Kyle McIntyre and Joshua Jacobs, winning 8-0.

The Dutchmen continued their dominance in singles, dropping just one match. Gold and Bank both registered 6-0, 6-0 wins at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively, and Schunk (6-1, 6-0)  and Shanley (6-1,6-0)  each contributed their second wins of the match at No. 3 and No. 6.

Union hosts the Dutchmen Invitational Sept.17-18.
