SCHENECTADY, NY - The Union College women's hockey opened the regular season at home against University of Connecticut.
The Huskies' Theresa Knutson found the back of the net twice as they topped the Dutchwomen 5-1 in Friday night's contest at Messa Rink.
The lone goal for Union came in the third period. After a UConn penalty, coach
Josh Sciba called a timeout. The Dutchwomen won the faceoff swung the puck around the boards before finding the tape of Caitlyn McClaren. She ripped a shot on net and beat the Huskie keeper to put Union on the board.
Alli Devins and
Haley Shugart were credited with the assist on the power play goal.
McClaren registered an assist in last year's matchup with UConn.
Union tallied 22 shots on goal while the Huskies posted 30 shots on net.
The Dutchwomen will square off against the Huskies again Saturday with opening faceoff scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
