SCHENECTADY, NY - The Union College men's swimming and diving team lost a closely contested meet to arch rival RPI Friday night in Alumni Gymnasium.
The meet was neck and neck all night before a strong finish from the Engineers in the final relay clinched a 128-115 victory over the Dutchmen.
Like the meet itself, the 200 yd freestyle relay was tight throughout. After two legs, Union has a .24 second advantage but, RPI was able to rally outtouching the Dutchmen by .28 seconds to seal the road victory.
Senior
John Enquist was first to the wall in all three of his events winning the 400 yd IM with a time of 4:09.89 which was eight seconds clear of the next competitor. Enquist kept it going in the 500 yd freestyle yet again winning by eight seconds with a time of 4:48.89. Finally in the 200 yd backstroke, the Liberty League Swimmer of the Week won with a time of 2:08.80 which was four and a half seconds better than the next closest swimmer.

Seifeldin Refaat kept up his winning ways taking home the 200 yd freestyle win with a time of 1:49.09. In the 200 yd butterfly, Refaat just edged out fellow first yearÂ
Jorge Tanur finishing with a time of 1:59.41 just .06 seconds ahead of Tanur.
On the diving board,
Sam Hoyt and
Matthew Mintz duked it out again atop the leaderboard. In the 3m competition, it was Mintz who took the event with a score of 344.02 while Hoyt had a score of 343.42. Hoyt would come back to take first in the 1m competition with a score of 357.67 while Mintz finished with a score of 310.65.
Union is back in the pool tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. as the Dutchmen play host to Middlebury College at Alumni Gymnasium.
