SCHENECTADY, NY - Union College men's swimming and diving seniors
John Enquist and
Dan Steinmetz were honored before today's meet against Ithaca College Saturday afternoon at Alumni Gymnasium.
In the first event of the meet, the 200 yd medley relay, Enquist and Steinmetz would swim the second and fourth leg of the race, respectively. The Dutchmen were just edged out by Ithaca by second.
The team score went back-and-forth throughout the afternoon as it came down to the final race of the day, the 200 yd freestyle relay. Ithaca took the race by two seconds and took the meet by a final score of 151-140.
On his senior day, Enquist notched three individual wins the first of which came in the 100 yd breaststroke as his time of 59.23 was almost a second better than the next closest competitor. In the 200 yd breaststroke he touched the wall two seconds ahead of the next closest swimmer as he finished with a time of 2:06.53. His final tally of the day was in the 200 yd IM touching the wall with a time of 1:58.05 which was three seconds better than anyone else in the event.
In the 500 yd and 1000 yd freestyle races, first year
Jorge Tanur would touch the wall first finishing with a time of 4:59.49 in the 500 yd race while having a time of 10:12.47 in the 1000 yd event.
Fellow first year Owen Perks would take both of the backstoke races finishing with a time of 55.17 in the 100 yd race while touching the wall at 2:00.93 in the 200 yd event.
Union is back in the pool when it competes in the UNYSCSA Championships in Ithaca, NY from Feb. 15-18th.
