Union edged by Amherst

SCHENECTADY, NY - With its third consecutive loss, the Union College women's swimming and diving team fell to Amherst College yesterday, 226-53.

The Dutchwomen struggled in the relay portion of the meet, being edged out by over five seconds on the 200 yard relay. The team's 800 yard relay finished in fourth and sixth place and collected just two points towards the team total.

Kerry Kelly put in a strong effort on the day. The sophomore came in second on the 50 yard backstroke, completing the race less than a second after the first place finisher. After a tight race in 100 yard backstroke, Kelly managed to bring home the victory, with a time of 1:02.34. In three individual events, Kelly totaled 16 points for the Dutchwomen, yesterday.

Senior Lindsay Hemminger earned fourth place in a tight 50 yard free race, and came in second in the 100 yard free, with a time of 56.23.

The Dutchwomen return to action on January 13, to take on Springfield and Hartwick in the Alumni Gym Pool.
