SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College men's lacrosse team has added 15 newcomers to its roster for the 2017 season. The Dutchmen open the season against Endicott College on March 2. The group includes five attackers, six midfielders, three defensemen and a goalie.
#2 David Husband, M, Eden Prairie, MN/Breck School/Bowdoin College
-Husband comes to Union from Bowdoin College where he spent his freshman year. Earned All-State, All-Conference and All-Section honors in Minnesota his senior season at the Breck School.
Coach's Take: "David is an exceptional offensive midfielder. He's not only a great addition on the field but, in the classroom transferring to Union from Bowdoin. I'm very excited about his potential for a sophomore."
#3 Josh Willis, LSM, Westport, CT/Staples HS
-Willis was named an Under Armor All-American his senior season at Staples High School. During his four years on varsity, Staples played in the state championship game twice.
Coach's Take: "Very dynamic long pole from Staples, CT. He could see significant playing time as a first year player."
#9 Kerry Lyne, A/M, Wellesley, MA/Wellesley HS/Loomis Chaffee
-Lyne was named a Bay State Conference three times during his time at Wellesley High School. Lyne also played at Loomis Chaffee for a season.
Coach's Take: "One of the top offensive recruits that we've had in my time at Union. Carries the ball exceptionally well, finishes. Great vision with outstanding lacrosse IQ. He will be a force to contend with."
#13 Eric Zimm, A, Manhassett, NY/Salisbury School
-Zimmed played three seasons for nationally ranked Salisbury School starting his final two seasons. He totaled 75 points in the New England West I Conference.
Coach's Take: "Lefty from the Salisbury School who can play inside. He has great vision and is becoming more proficient with both hands but, his vision and ability to finish are going to help the Dutchmen this season."
#14 Benjamin Dierkhising, A/M, San Francisco, CA/St. Ignatius College Prep
-Helped his team to a WCAL Championship his senior year while also helping St. Ignatius College Prep to a top 10 national ranking.
Coach's Take: "A young man from California who came in with outstanding credentials. It's a little bit of a different game on the east coast but, Ben is adjusting extremely well. He will see time as both a midfielder and as an attack man. His physical abilities are outstanding."
#15 Jimmy Connelly, M, Hauppauge, NY/Hauppauge HS
-Connelly captained Hauppauge high school while also earning team MVP honors during his senior season. He was also named a four time NYSPHSAA Scholar Athlete.
Coach's Take: "He comes from Hauppauge, NY and will be a defensive midfielder for us this season and he's really good in transition. He's a very tough defensive midfielder with great ground balls skills."
#17 Jason Bienstock, D, Mamaroneck, NY/Mamaroneck HS
-Bienstock was a two time all-league selection while also being voted to the all-section tem. He captained his Mamaroneck high school to a 2015 Section I championship
Coach's Take: "Very good lefty cover defenseman with an excellent stick with very good feet. He's a very cerebral player."
#19 Griffin Morgan, M, Wellesley, MA/Wellesley HS
-Morgan was voted a First Team Bay State Conference All-Star his senior season. He was also voted team MVP while captaining his team.
Coach's Take: "Very talented, big, strong midfielder who is very athletic on the wings. He will compete on faceoffs and help us in the defensive midfield. He also has the ability to play man down and is an excellent transition midfielder."
#21 Eric Gennari, M, Rockville Center, NY/Deerfield Academy/Providence College
-Gennari comes to Union from Providence College where he spent his freshman and sophomore years. At Deerfield Academy, he helped his team to a 2014 New England Championship while earning the Dale McGibbon's Player and Citizen Award and Lacrosse Unsung Hero Award in 2013.
Coach's Take: "He's tough, physical and fast. He transferred in from Providence. He was one of our bigger surprises in the tryout process. We expect him to make an immediate impact right away transferring in as a junior. He's a potentially great player with great speed and he's really good on defense."
#23 Jack Kaufman, A/M, Pittsford, NY/Pittsford HS
-Kaufman was named a US Lacrosse Academic All-American. He helped Pittsford to a NYS Semi Final in 2015 earning Section Class A All-Tournament Team and Sectional V All-County honors.
Coach's Take: "Quick, shifty attack midfielder from Pittsford, NY. Played at a great high school. We like his quickness and toughness. He's another one of those recruits that's a proven winner."
#25 Edward Winters, D, Allendale, NJ/Northern Highlands Regional HS
-Winters earned First Team All-North Jersey, All-County and All-Gibbs Division honors his senior season captaining his team to the County and State finals.
Coach's Take: "Ed is a tall, long, rangy defenseman. We expect him to develop into a strong impact player for us on the defensive end."
#27 Patrick Regan, M, Baltimore, MD/Calvert Hall
-Regan helped Calvert Hall to MIAA A Conference Lacrosse Playoffs in both the 2015 and 2016 seasons.
Coach's Take: "Outstanding faceoff man from Calvert Hall. Excellent student. Excellent ground ball man who is strong both righty and lefty. He's one of our top recruits this year and he's going to see significant playing time."
#29 Luke Lacroce, A, Portsmouth, NH/Portsmouth HS
-Lacroce was named a First Team All-State selection in 2015 and 2016 while earning the Foster's Daily Democrat Lacrosse Player of the Year in 2016. He also holds Portsmouth high school's single season scoring record.
Coach's Take: "Luke has great field vision with a big, strong body for an attack man. He likes to finish in front."
#35 Graham Goldheim, G, Briarcliff Manor, NY/Briarcliff HS
-Goldheim was named to the Second Team All-Section team during his senior year at Briar Cliff high school.
Coach's Take: "He is an excellent stopper. He played at a great high school. Graham brings excellent quickness, leadership and communication to our outstanding tradition of potentially great goaltenders."
#36 John Delara, D, Weston, CT/Weston HS
-Delara earned All-State, All-Division and All-Area honors his senior season at Weston high school while helping his team to a Class S State Championship in 2013.
Coach's Take: "JT is a very athletic defenseman from a small high school but, is getting better every day in practice. He's a hard worker that is a tenacious defender. He will play long pole and defense for us."
