HILTON HEAD, S.C.--The Union College men's tennis team rolled to a 9-0 win against Frostburg State, Sunday afternoon at Chaplin Park Tennis Center in Hilton Head.
Zach Kaplan and
Del Schunk were both double winners for the Dutchmen (3-5). Kaplan defeated Shasta Braithwaite, 7-5, 6-1, at No. 1 singles and teamed with
Ian Bank for an 8-0 victory at No. 2 doubles. In his first match of the day, Schunk combined withÂ
David Bond for an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles. He followed that up with a 6-0, 6-1 win against Marcus Bowers at No. 2 singles.
Thomas Andre and
David Brown notched an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles, giving Union a 3-0 lead. The win was the first of Andre's collegiate career. The Dutchmen continued to cruise in singles play, taking all six matches.
Justin Gold was a 6-0, 6-1 winner at No. 3,
Max McGeown registered a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 4 and
Sam Varsano won 6-2,6-3 at No. 5.
Matt Gracer capped the sweep, rallying from a 0-3 deficit in the second set to take his match, 6-0, 6-3, posting his first collegiate singles win.Â
The Dutchmen take on Oberlin Monday, March 20 at 8 a.m.
