Dutchmen give strong showing against Springfield

SCHENECTADY, NY - The Union College men's swimming and diving team fell 126-156 yesterday, to Springfield College.

Despite the loss, it was one of the team's strongest showings this season. The Dutchmen's relay team (consisting of Joseph Lifrak, Andrew Wojtowicz, Sam Hoyt and Jack Wassik) won the 200 yard freestyle relay.

First year Lifrak collected nine individual points for the Dutchmen, winning the 200 free with a time of 1:53.16. He had over a second on the second place finisher.

Seifeldin Refaat crushed the 200 fly, finishing at 1:59.44. The next closest finisher wouldn't cross the finish line until 2:12.11. The Florida native also won the 100 free.

Hoyt won the 1 meter diving competition, his fourth consecutive victory in this event. Sophomore Owen Perks also won both the 100 and 200 backstroke events and placed second on 100 fly.

The Dutchmen return to competition next Friday to take on cross-town rival, RPI.
