HANOVER, NH – Snapping a three-game losing skid, the Union College men's hockey team got back on track with a 4-1 conference win against Dartmouth on Friday night at Thompson Arena.
Â
The Dutchmen scored twice in both the first and third periods en route to their seventh ECAC Hockey win of the season, improving to 11-10-1 (7-2-0 ECAC). The Big Green drops to 4-9-1 (2-5-1 ECAC) with the loss.
Â
First year
Jack Adams opened the scoring with his third goal of the season, finishing off a great feed from
Sebastian Vidmar on a two-on-one rush midway through the first period.
Â
Seven minutes later, fellow first year
Joseph Campolieto potted his third goal of the season too. Joining the rush at the blue line, Campolieto made a move around a Dartmouth defenseman before sniping the puck over the shoulder of Devin Buffalo to give Union a 2-0 lead with 3:56 left in the first period.
Â
In the second period neither goaltender was willing to concede the game's third goal, as
Jake Kupsky made 10 saves in net for Union during the middle frame.
Â
With a career-best 10-game point streak on the line,
Cole Maier scored his seventh goal at the 4:52 mark of the third period to extend Union's lead to 3-0. Adams and Vidmar both assisted on the goal, recording their second points of the evening.
Â
However, Dartmouth ended Union's shutout bid with an extra-attacker goal at the 15:15 mark. Quin Foreman scored off a face-off in the Dutchman zone to bring the Big Green back within two.
Â
The Dutchmen weathered a six-man push by Dartmouth in the waning minutes, and
Ryan Scarfo intercepted a loose puck in the neutral zone and scored on the open net to clinch the 4-1 victory. Scarfo's goal was his 11th of the season, which leads all Dutchman skaters.
Â
Union went scoreless on one power play in the contest, but also went a perfect 4-for-4 on the penalty kill.
Â
Union returns to the ice tomorrow afternoon for a 3:30 p.m. (ET) game against at Harvard.
