SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Freshman Cameron Klepper captured the "D" singles title while senior Max McGeown and freshman Ioannis Binopoulos took home the "B" doubles crown to lead the Union College men's tennis team at the 2018 Dutchman Invitational, held at the Union Tennis Courts on Saturday and Sunday.

Klepper went 3-0 in singles competition this weekend, winning twice on Saturday and once on Sunday to take the title. The freshman lost only five games in his three matches, including just two in a 6-2, 6-0 win over Hamilton College's Lucas Suhl in Sunday's final.

Fellow freshman Binopoulos also had a good weekend for the Dutchmen, winning three times to take the doubles title and also going 2-1 to take third in the "A" singles flight as well. In doubles play, he and McGeown started with an 8-3 win yesterday over a team from St. Lawrence University, then came back on Sunday with a hard-fought 8-6 win over Hamilton and an 8-5 victory over another SLU tandem. In singles play, Binopoulos won his first match on Saturday before falling in the semifinals, but he rebounded nicely with a quick 8-0 win over Leo Romanetz of St. Lawrence in the third-place match.

Union took first and fifth in the "D" singles flight thanks to junior Justin Gold, who bounced back from a supertiebreaker defeat in the first round to beat a pair of Oneonta competitors on Sunday. Junior Del Schunk and freshman Jack Andre similarly took fifth in "B" doubles, defeating Oneonta 8-2 in the semifinals of the consolation bracket before an 8-6 win over St. Lawrence in the fifth-place match.

Union will look to keep the momentum going into the beginning of dual-match play, as the Dutchmen start the Liberty League schedule off with a match at Bard College on Tuesday.

Union College was my first choice among the many small liberal arts colleges I was planning to apply to. I first heard of the school from my teammate Zach Kaplan, who I knew from home. Once I went on my recruiting, visit I immediately fell in love with the school and all it had to offer.
