SCHENECTADY, N.Y. — The Union College women's hockey squad returns to Messa Rink to take on in-state rival Syracuse for a single game match-up on Tuesday, October 29.

About the Dutchwomen:

  • Union split their contest against Lindenwood on October 18th and 19th, falling 3-1 on Friday and tying 2-2 on Saturday.
  • The Dutchwomen scored more than one goal for the first time this season in the tied game on Saturday.
  • First-year defender Olivia Groulx got her first career goal and assisted in the weekend series, giving her the team-lead in points that weekend, with three. Senior forward Katelynn Russ also added to her point total this season, collecting a goal and an assist on the weekend. Senior Megan Ryan and first-year Leah Herrfort also collected assists during the series. With her performance, Ryan currently is the only player on the Union roster with more than one assist, and leads the team with two.
  • First-year goaltender Bella McKee saved a great 90 shots on the weekend to keep both games close in score and received the ECAC Goaltender of the Week award for her efforts in the net. McKee currently has a .933 save percentage on the season and a goals against average of 2.70.

About the Orange:

  • Syracuse lost both games in last weekend's series, losing 3-1 on Friday and 3-0 on Saturday at Princeton. With those losses in New Jersey, the Orange currently sits at 0-9-0 on the season.
  • After losing their top two scorers last season, the Orange are led again by two seniors in scoring with Lindsay Eastwood and Anonda Hoppner leading the pack with four points each.
  • Kelli Roswell is the only player with more than two goals for Syracuse, with three goals on the season, and no assists for a total of three points.
  • Goaltenders Allison Small and Ady Cohen are both returning in the net from last season for Syracuse, with Small leading the pair in minutes played this season. Small also leads the pair in GAA (3.85), save percentage (.886), and shots faced (202).

The All-Time Series with Syracuse:

  • Tuesday night's game between Syracuse and Union is the 11th all-time meeting between the two Empire State squads, with Syracuse holding the 2-8-0 lead.
  • The teams last met in a single game on January 12, 2016, with the Orange taking the 4-0 win over the Dutchwomen in Schenectady. No players on the current Union roster have played against the Orange.

Warning, Tough Road Ahead:

  • Union women's hockey opens ECAC Hockey play after the game versus Syracuse. The conference schedule opens up with Clarkson University, who was in the NCAA Frozen Four for the fourth consecutive year last season, and Saint Lawrence ranked sixth in the ECAC conference poll.
  • ECAC Hockey foes Clarkson, Cornell, Princeton, Colgate, and Harvard are all receiving votes in the current edition of the USCHO Division I Women's Poll.
  • Syracuse received one vote in the USCHO.com poll, and future opponents Mercyhurst and Bemidji State also received votes this week.
