CLINTON, N.Y. –
The Union College men's tennis team competed in its final event of the fall season this weekend at the Hamilton College Invitational, held on Saturday and Sunday.

The event featured teams from Hamilton, Ithaca College and the University of Rochester, with squads playing eight-game pro sets in singles play as well as regulation doubles matches.

Sophomore Nick Weitzman had a good effort to lead Union, going a perfect 3-0 on the weekend with two singles wins and one doubles victory

Against Hamilton, the two teams split the 10 singles pro-sets Union received singles wins from Weitzman (8-5), senior David Bond (6-3), junior Austin Egna (8-2), and freshmen Ryan Dagan (8-6) and Thomas McGuire (7-6 (7-0)). The Dutchmen won one of five doubles matches, with senior Del Schunk and sophomore Jack Andre registering an 8-4 win.

The Dutchmen won three of the four doubles matches contested against Ithaca in a strong showing. Weitzman and classmate Cameron Klepper posted an 8-7 (9-7) win to start out, followed by two easier victories, as Bond and McGuire earned an 8-2 triumph and the first-year tandem of Dagan and Nate Bartlett picked up an 8-1 win.

Union struggled in singles play against Rochester, earning two wins in 10 matches. Junior Max Egna picked up an 8-6 win and Weitzman won again with an 8-3 triumph.

Union will take the remainder of the fall and winter trimesters off from competition before returning to action in March. The Dutchmen are slated to start 2020 on March 8 at Connecticut College.

Union College was my first choice among the many small liberal arts colleges I was planning to apply to. I first heard of the school from my teammate Zach Kaplan, who I knew from home. Once I went on my recruiting, visit I immediately fell in love with the school and all it had to offer.
