SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Three members of the Union College field hockey team were recognized as All-Liberty League selections for their play during the 2019 season, the conference office announced on Wednesday morning.
Senior
Charlotte Leyland was named to the All-Liberty League first team, while junior
Heather Poisson and freshman
Jill Bove earned spots on the All-Conference second team.
Following three seasons on the All-Conference second team, Leyland finally made the leap to first-team recognition in her senior season after scoring a team-best nine goals with four assists for 22 points in 16 games. Leyland was the key to the Dutchwoman attack again this year, ranking second in the conference with 82 shots in addition to finishing fifth in goals and fourth in points per game.
The senior finished her stellar four-year career with 36 goals and 18 assists for 90 points, becoming the first player in program history to lead the team in scoring for four consecutive seasons. She also is the first Dutchwoman to earn four All-Conference honors since
Kelsey Powers '11 from 2007-10.
Poisson earned the second All-Conference nod of her career after a solid junior season in goal for Union, starting nine games and posting a 2.22 goals against average and team-best .762 save percentage. She finished the season fifth in the conference in both GAA and save percentage, while also ranking second among Liberty League goalies by averaging 6.75 saves per game in conference play.
In three seasons with the Dutchwomen, Poisson has recorded 15 wins, four shutouts, a 2.65 goals against average and .779 save percentage in 37 games.
Bove also earns second-team honors after an impressive first season with Union. The first-year stepped right into the starting lineup on defense, starting all 16 games and recording three defensive saves in addition to chipping in a pair of assists.
Union finished the 2019 season with a 6-10 record and 2-5 mark in conference play, with three of those losses coming to conference tournament teams by a single goal each.
