SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College men's swimming and diving team started the 2019-20 season with a 146-128 victory over Skidmore College on Saturday afternoon at the Alumni Gym Pool.
Competing without any divers, the Dutchmen took first place in 11 out of 13 swimming events on the way to the victory.
Freshman
Jack Tucker had a very successful collegiate debut, winning all three of his individual events and also helping his lone relay to a victory as well. He took first in the 200 freestyle with a top time of 1:50.34, followed by a 2:00.79 result that won the 200 butterfly. He closed out his day by winning the 500 freestyle in 4:57.22.
Senior
Owen Perks took home first place in the 100 and 200 backstroke, touching the wall in 56.52 and 2:09.05, respectively. Classmate
Seif Refaat won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:02.12 and also captured the 50 freestyle in 22.84.
Sophomore
Zachary Cormier touched first in the 100 freestyle, clocking in at 51.83, and also beat out two Skidmore swimmers to win the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:06.19.
Sophomore
Brendan Egan helped to clinch the meet for Union with several key performances, including his first career victory in the 100 butterfly with a time of 56.36. He also took second in the 50 free (23.01) and 200 free (1:55.67) for the home team.

Marcus Diaz won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:43.72 to beat three Skidmore entries, while the foursome of Refaat, Diaz, Egan and Cormier touched first in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:30.72.
Union will return to the pool next Saturday for their final home meet of 2019 against Amherst College beginning at 1 p.m. at Alumni Gym Pool.
