SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College women's swimming and diving team started the 2019-20 season with a 170-128 victory over Skidmore College on Saturday afternoon at the Alumni Gym Pool.
Union won eight of the 12 individual races contested on the day, and also swept both diving events and both relays on the way to the victory.
Freshman
Melanie Baker got her collegiate career off to a great start, earning three individual victories and also taking home another win as part of a relay. She earned her first individual win with a 1:02.66 finish in the 100 backstroke, followed by a narrow win in the 50 freestyle by 0:07 over sophomore
Jessica Frigon in 26.62. She then finished her day with a 2:18.92 swim in the 200 backstroke.
Senior
Kerry Kelly got her final season off to an excellent start, earning a trio of individual wins and a relay win as well. She won the 200 butterfly by an impressive 13.94 seconds with a time of 2:10.97, then took the 100 butterfly by nearly five seconds in 1:00.76. She then captured the 200 individual medley by finishing in 2:17.39.
Sophomore
Anna Lehr earned a pair of wins in the 200 and 500 freestyle, touching the wall in 2:04.98 and 5:38.62, respectively.
Junior
Amanda Lopez swept the boards for Union in the victory, winning the one-meter dive with a score of 213.60 and the three-meter dive with a score of 230.84.
The Dutchwomen also captured first in both relays as well. The foursome of Baker, senior

Grace Athanas won the 200 medley relay in 1:58.37, while the quartet of Kelly, Frigon, Lehr and senior
Claire Hadelman won the 400 freestyle relay in 3:53.64.
Union will return to the pool next Saturday for their final home meet of 2019 against Amherst College beginning at 1 p.m. at Alumni Gym Pool.
