Dutchmen Fall to Hartwick and Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. —
 The Union College men's swimming and diving team started the 2020 calendar year with a 200-77 loss versus Springfield College and a 207-66 loss to Hartwick College, at a dual meet hosted by Springfield on Saturday afternoon at Art Linkletter Natatorium.

Union's two wins on the day come courtesy of senior Seif Refaat, posting overall wins in the 100 and 200-yard butterfly. He won the 200 fly in 2:01.79 to win by more than 2.5 seconds, and his time of 54.55 seconds was good for a slight victory in the 100 fly. Refaat also grabbed third in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:05.32.

Additionally, the 200 yard medley relay of Refaat, senior Owen Perks, first-year Jack Tucker, and sophomore Zachary Cormier took second overall with a time of 1:42.48. Perks also added a third-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 56.60 seconds.

Union will continue their season with a meet at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. The meet is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start on Friday.
