SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — The Union College women's swimming and diving team added to its win column with an intense 146-138 victory over Hartwick on Saturday afternoon at Art Linkletter Natatorium. The dual meet was hosted by Springfield College, who defeated the Dutchwomen by a 218-77 score at the same meet.
Union's two individual victories on the day come from senior Kerry Kelly. The All-American claimed two titles from Springfield, coming in the 200-yard butterfly and 500-yard freestyle, and an additional title over Hartwick in the 200-yard individual medley. She won the 200 fly in 2:12.98, and took the 500 free by more than five seconds in 5:22.10.
With the seven-point margin over Hartwick, the divers were vital, with junior Annie O'Donnell scoring seven points for the Dutchwomen in the first 11-dive meet in her career. She took second in the one-meter dive with 241.89 points, and also placed third on the three-meter boards with 262.35 points. Classmate Amanda Lopez also grabbed second place in the three-meter dive with a score of 372.75.
Sophomore Elise Liebow's victory over Hartwick in the 100-yard backstroke was critical in the meet for Union, as her time of 1:05.82 was 0.21 seconds faster than her closest Hawk counterpart and helped to provide the crucial points needed to secure the victory.
The Dutchwomen also captured fourth in both relays as well. The foursome of Liebow, Kelly, senior Emily Quinn, and sophomore Jessica Frigon got a time of 1:59.44 in the 200-yard medley, while the quartet of Frigon, sophomore Anna Lehr, senior Claire Hadelman, and first-year Emma Withey posted a 4:04.76 time in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
