SCHENECTADY, N.Y. — The Union College men's swimming and diving team gave many outstanding performances at home, but the effort fell short at Alumni Gym Pool, as the Dutchmen fell to Vassar College, 167-111 on Saturday afternoon.
The close margin on senior day came with plenty of results from swimmers celebrating their last meet at home. Senior Owen Perks came away from the meet with an individual win to his name, grabbing the title in the 100-yard backstroke. Perks also finished behind teammate sophomore Zach Cormier in the 200-yard backstroke, finishing with a time of 2:01.55 to cap off his senior day. His classmate, Seif Refaat, also came out with a win on senior day, and got the fastest time in the field for the 100-yard butterfly (1:12.05), while also taking the title in the 200-yard fly(2:00.49).
Cormier claimed two event titles to his name on the day, leading the field in both the 200-yard freestyle (1:50.04) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:01.44).
The foursome of Perks, Refaat, Cormier, and sophomore Brendan Egan grabbed first place in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:41.33. Refaat came back into the pool to compete in the 200-yar freestyle relay with first-years Marcus Diaz and Jack Tucker, along with sophomore Joe Lifrak and swam a 1:32.88 time that was good enough for a second-place finish.
Union will continue their season with a road meet at Ithaca. The meet is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start in Ithaca, N.Y. on February 1.
