ITHACA, N.Y. — Even though the seniors secured the only wins for the Dutchwomen at Ithaca, their performance wasn't enough to give Union the win on the road, as the Union College women's swimming and diving team fell at Ithaca College, 209-72, on Saturday afternoon.
Senior Kerry Kelly was able to secure two of those wins, touching the wall first in both the 200-yard butterfly (2:12.60) and the 200-yard individual medley events (2:16.94). Kelly's performance in the 200-yard butterfly was eight seconds ahead of the second-place finisher and secured nine points for the Dutchwomen at the meet.
Kelly's classmate, Emily Quinn, got a win of her own at Ithaca, finishing three seconds ahead of the next swimmer in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:33.55. Kelly and Quinn also took part in the third-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay with sophomores Elise Liebow and Jess Frigon and finished with a time of 1:59.11.
Junior Amanda Lopez grabbed the second place titles in the 1-meter diving event for the Dutchwomen, getting a score of 264.60 in the 1-meter event, which was just one point behind the first-place finisher from Ithaca. Lopez came back to the pool to compete in the 3-meter event, but her score of 362.25 was only enough for fifth place.
The Dutchwomen will take a few weeks off before heading off to Ithaca once more for the Liberty League conference championships. Day one of the competition is scheduled on February 19, with a 10 a.m. start.
