HANOVER, N.H. – A nine-game winning streak against Dartmouth came to an end, as the Union College men's hockey team dropped a 5-3 decision to the Big Green on Friday night at Thompson Arena.
With the loss, Union is solidified in the 10 spot in the ECAC Hockey standings and will face either Yale or Dartmouth in the first round of the league playoffs.
Union skated with Dartmouth all game, but the difference came from the Big Green's Drew O'Connor who scored his first collegiate hat trick, which included two power play goals.
Anthony Rinaldi scored his third goal in as many games, tying the game up at 1-1 in the first period. Unfortunately, Dartmouth got their lead right back 40 seconds later.
In the second period, the Big Green took a 3-1 lead in the first minute off a power-play goal.
Chaz Smedsrud scored on a delayed penalty to make it 3-2, but Dartmouth ended up scoring in the final two minutes of the period to take back its two-goal lead.
The Dutchmen turned up the intensity in the third period and
Parker Foo scored on the power play less than two minutes in to once again make it a one-goal game. However, O'Connor scored his third and final goal on the power play just past the 15-minute mark to seal the win for Dartmouth.
