SCHENECTADY, N.Y. The Union College women's ice hockey heads on the road for a weekend of ECAC action, facing off against Quinnipiac University on Friday night before playing at Princeton on Saturday afternoon.

About the Dutchwomen:

  • Union has been on a hiatus since January 28, where the Dutchwomen fell to St. Lawrence in an intense contest against the Saints at Messa Rink.
  • The game was kept scoreless for the first two frames of the conference matchup, but the Saints got on the board first to grab the lead with just 15 minutes left in regulation. St. Lawrence added another goal less than four minutes later to seal the 2-0 win, and the head-to-head tiebreaker for the series.
  • While the Saints outshot the Dutchwomen 45-17, first-year goaltender Bella McKee saved 45 shots to keep the Dutchwomen in the game for the full 60 minutes of play.
  • With Union's loss from St. Lawrence, the Dutchwomen currently have sole possession of ninth place in ECAC Hockey with a conference record of 5-8-3. Union is currently ahead of Dartmouth, Brown, and RPI.

About the Bobcats:

  • The Bobcats spent the weekend on the road and traveled to Brown and Yale. Quinnipiac went 2-0-0 on the weekend, won 3-1 against Brown, and later grabbed a huge 3-1 win over Yale on Saturday.
  • Quinnipiac's offense is evenly spaced and powerful. Lexie Adzija (10-13-23) holds the team lead in points and assists. Behind Adzija on the leaderboard is senior Sarah-Eve Coutu-Godbout, with 12 goals and 19 points to lead the Bobcats in goals so far this year. Alongside them is Sadie Peart with 14 points on the year, and Kenzie Prater, who also has 14 points to tie with Peart for third on the team in scoring.
  • Senior Abbie Ives has handled the goaltending responsibilities this season, starting 24 games for the Bobcats. Ives has earned a 12-9-3 record, 1.78 GAA, with a save percentage of .932.
  • Quinnipiac is currently 6-4-2 at home so far. The matchup between the two teams is the second on the season, as the Union claimed a 4-2 win over the Bobcats in November.
  • With their 7-7-2 record in ECAC Conference play, the Bobcats are 7th in the conference, and are recieving two votes in the current edition of the USCHO.com poll.
The Series with Quinnipiac:
  • Friday's meeting between Union and Quinnipiac is the 36th all-time meeting between the two conference foes, with Union sitting at 1-31-4 historically.
  • The two teams last played each other in November, where Union claimed their first ever win over the Bobcats, by a 4-2 tally.
  • The two squads first met on November 17, 2001, at Quinnipiac, which ended in a 7-0 Bobcats victory.

About the Tigers:

  • The Tigers, like the Bobcats, also spent their weekend on the road, traveling to Yale and Brown. Princeton easily grabbed two conference wins with a combined score of 6-2 on the weekend.
  • Princeton has been known for a powerful and lethal offense, and this year is no exception. Sarah Fillier (13-24-37) holds the team lead in points and assists. Behind Fillier on the leaderboard is senior Carly Bullock, with her team-lead 18 goals and 33 points in her final campaign for the Tigers. Alongside them is Maggie Connors with 32 points on the year, and Sharon Frankel, who has thrived in her junior season for the Tigers with 19 points.
  • Princeton has split goaltending duties this season, with senior Steph Neatby starting the most games with 11. Neatby currently has a save percentage of .911 and goals against average of 2.41. Junior Rachel McQuigge leads the pair in all statistical categories, with a .925 save percentage and a 1.66 goals against, in her 8 starts for Princeton.
  • Princeton is currently 9-2-0 at home so far. The matchup between the two teams is the second on the season, as Princeton defeated Union by a 7-2 tally in November.
  • With their 12-3-1 record in ECAC Conference play, the Tigers are 2nd in the conference, behind Cornell. With their votes in the USCHO.com poll, Princeton is currently ranked 6th in the country.

The Series with Princeton:

  • Saturday's meeting between Union and Princeton is the 34th all-time meeting between the two conference foes, with Union sitting at 1-31-1 historically.
  • The two teams last played each other in November, where Princeton claimed a 7-2 win over Union at Messa Rink.
  • The two squads first met on February 7, 2004, at Messa Rink, which ended in a 5-0 Tigers victory.

A Golden Year:

  • During winter break, head coach Josh Sciba traveled to Bratislava, Slovakia, as the assistant coach for the U.S. Under-18 Women's National Team, for the second consecutive season.
  • Team USA earned a gold medal in Slovakia, after earning an overtime win over Canada on January 2. This marks the second U18 world medal for Sciba, as Team USA earned a silver medal in 2019. 

Rewriting the Record Books:

  • With her goal in the first game versus RPI, senior Katelynn Russ remains fifth all-time in Union's history for points (54) and third in the Division I era. With two more points, she move into a tie for fourth all-time with Christine Valente '15.
  • Ahead of Russ on the all-time points list is Courtney Ripenhoff '05 with 61 points for third all-time, Elizabeth Flanagan '03 with 64 points for second all-time, and Elise Nichols '07 with 68 points for the program lead in points. Of those three, Nichols is the only Dutchwoman to record all her points as a Division I player.
  • Russ is also climbing up the leaderboard for career goals as well. She currently has the sole-possession of third all-time in goals with 32. She trails Ripenhoff with 35 goals and Nichols with 43 career tallies. Senior Haley Shugart is also on the goal leaderboard as well, and sits at eighth all-time with her 21 career goals.
  • With her most recent assist, senior Cheyenne Harris now has sole possession of third all-time in the Union record books for assists (34) and sits just two away from tying the program-record of 36 set by Valente. Classmate Rachel de Perio also has cracked the top 10 and sits tied for sixth for assists (26).

Comparing the Conference:

  • First place Cornell is pulling ahead with 29 points, holding a conference record of 13-0-3 so far on the season. 
  • Four ECAC teams are in the top ten in the weekly polls. Cornell is at No. 2/4, Princeton is at No. 6/6, Clarkson at No. 7/7, and Harvard rounds out the pack at No. 10/10. Quinnipiac, the other team that the Dutchwomen meet this weekend, is recieving 2 votes in the current edition of the USCHO.com poll, and 4 in the USA Today poll.
  • Union sits at ninth in the ECAC with a 5-8-3 conference record, and 13 points in the standings.
