O'Brien and Weitzman Reach Doubles Semis at ITA Regionals

GENEVA, N.Y. – Senior Nick Weitzman and junior Aidan O'Brien's run to the semifinal round of the doubles bracket highlighted day two for the Union College men's tennis team at the ITA Northeast Regionals, hosted by Hobart College on Saturday.

After a pair of victories yesterday, Weitzman and O'Brien continued their run on Sunday with a tiebreaker victory in the quarterfinals, outlasting Igor Visnevskij and Suhas Krishnan of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in a tiebreaker, 8-7 (7-4). The win made them the first tandem in recent program history to reach the ITA regional doubles semifinals.

The run came to a halt in the semifinals, however, as the pair dropped an 8-1 decision to second-seeded Zachary Portnoy and Brendan Jimenez of Skidmore College.

In consolation singles competition, first-year Ben Jacobs added to Union's win total on the weekend with an 8-7 (7-0) win over TCNJ's Derek Jordan.

"It was an incredible run in the doubles bracket by Nick and Aidan, and an amazing weekend altogether for the team," said head coach Brian Bowman. "I am really proud of the team for not just this weekend but for a great fall season. We are very excited to get back to work in February."

The Dutchmen will spend the rest of the fall and the winter preparing for the bulk of their season in the spring, with seven Liberty League matches beginning April 1 against Skidmore College.
