Guinn Moves On From Men's Soccer Coaching Position

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – After 24 years leading the Union College men's soccer program to new heights both on and off the field, Jeff Guinn is moving on from his role as head men's soccer coach at Union College, Director of Athletics Jim McLaughlin '93 announced on Friday.

The fourth-longest tenured coach in Union Athletics history, Guinn led his teams to a 220-142-35 (.598) record during his tenure on the sidelines, the most wins ever by a Union men's soccer coach and the seventh-most by a coach in any sport at the College. Under his watch, Union saw one All-American, 16 All-Region selections and 80 All-Conference honorees come through the program.

"Jeff has been such an integral part of our department for more than two decades and his impact on the men's soccer program cannot be understated," said McLaughlin. "We thank Jeff for his incredible service to Union College and all the student-athletes whose lives he bettered during his time in Schenectady, and we look forward to seeing the program continue to build on the foundation he has created."

Guinn led the Dutchmen to a record-setting season in 2005, when Union ran through the Liberty League with a perfect 7-0-0 record on the way to the team's first NCAA Tournament appearance in 14 years. Union defeated Johnson & Wales in overtime to begin the NCAA Tournament and finished the year with a program-record 17 victories and 67 goals scored, with Guinn earning Liberty League Coach of the Year honors and a program-record eight players earning All-Conference laurels along the way.

Guinn's teams earned national rankings in three different seasons, reaching as high as sixth in the country after winning the first eight games of the 2007 campaign. That season saw the Dutchmen post a 13-4-4 record and accumulate a program-record 14 shutouts, allowing only 11 goals in 21 matches and conceding more than one in only four games.

In his final season of competition in 2019, Guinn guided Union to one of the best starts in program history, as the Dutchmen won their first eight games to match his 2007 squad for the most consecutive victories to start a season.

In total, Guinn's teams produced 13 double-digit win totals in 23 seasons, including seven straight years between 2007-13, and had only one losing season in his last 19 years at the helm.

A national search for Union's next head men's soccer coach will be underway shortly.
