SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Seniors
Lucas Montalto and
Jacob Perry of the Union College men's soccer team were recognized for their contributions on the field and success in the classroom with spots on the 2025 Academic All-District Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators and announced on Tuesday.
To be nominated for College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors, student-athletes must compete in 90 percent of or start at least 66 percent of an institution's matches, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher, and reach sophomore athletic and academic standing at the school. Academic All-District honorees are considered for advancement to the CSC Academic All-America ballot, the results of which will be announced in December.
Montalto is honored for the second straight season after another year as one of the team's top midfielders. The co-captain played in 18 matches with 13 starts as a senior, tying for the team lead with a career-high three goals and six points. All three of his goals were game-winning tallies for the Garnet Chargers, securing 1-0 victories over SUNY Poly, Vassar College and Bard College to rank third in the Liberty League in game-winners.
Perry is recognized for the first time in his career following an excellent senior season in goal for Union. He finished the year with a 6-6-6 record, 1.00 goals against average and .816 save percentage in 18 starts, leading the Liberty League in saves per game (4.44) while ranking second in both save percentage and shutouts (six) and sixth in goals against average. The senior made two saves in a penalty shootout to help Union make the Liberty League Tournament semifinals for the second time in three seasons.
With the two honorees, Union student-athletes have now earned 283 Academic All-District honors since 2001. The men's soccer team is fourth all Union programs with 24 honorees over that span.
