TROY, N.Y. – Senior
Alice Sperry and junior
Amelia Roth of the Union College women's crew team were recognized as members of the 2021 All-Liberty League Women's Rowing Teams, the conference office announced on Wednesday.
Sperry was named to the All-Conference first team, while Roth was named to the All-Conference second team. The honors are the first career All-Liberty League laurels for both athletes.
Both rowers were key members of the varsity 8 boat this season, with Sperry sitting in the five-seat and Roth taking the bow-seat. The boat won its first three races of the season against the University of Rochester, St. Lawrence University and Skidmore College, in the process sitting second among teams "receiving votes" in the Pocock CRCA Div. III national poll. The team finished the year with a fifth-place finish against a very strong field at the Liberty League Championships.
Despite the graduation of Sperry and several other key contributors, Roth and many members of the varsity 8 boat are slated to return in 2021-22 as the Dutchwomen look to keep making strides in a full year of competition.
