Colin Lama and sophomore
Michael Fiore were named the Liberty League Defensive Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively.
Lama had a career day against Springfield, leading all players and setting a new career high with 16 tackles, including 11 solo tackles, and one tackle for a two-yard loss. His 16 tackles are the most by a Dutchman since Jake Lombardo '18 recorded 16 tackles against Rensselaer on November 11, 2017.
In the first quarter, Lama recovered a fumble, which resulted in a Union field goal on the next drive. With less than a minute to go in the fourth quarter, Lama intercepted a pass on Springfield's final drive to secure the win.
Fiore led all players offensively with 110 rushing yards. The sophomore rushed for 27 yards and a score in the third quarter to keep Union ahead. Fiore is averaging 87.67 rushing yards and one touchdown per gamethrough three contests.
Union moved up to No. 12 in the latest D3football.com rankings and is ranked No. 11 in the first AFCA poll of the year. The Dutchmen have won 17 straight regular season games dating back to 2018. Union heads to Utica College on Saturday to take on the Pioneers beginning at 1:00 p.m.
