Union Kicks Off ECAC Play in the North Country

About the Dutchwomen:
After nearly three weeks off the Union College women's team will make their annual trip to the North Country for the start of ECAC action against the #10/11 Clarkson University Golden knights and the Saints of St. Lawrence University. Union returns to the ice after securing a 3-1 win over Boston University for their first win ever over the Terriers in program history. Carmen Merlo, Emma Hebert, and Ashley Adams scored in the game for Union. 

Emily King is the team's leading scorer with four goals and three assists for seven points. Sophie Matsoukas has started all 6 games for Union, posting a 3.20 goals against average and a .899 save percentage. 

National Stage:
Senior Emily King is ranked 21st in the nation when it comes to face-off wins. She has win 79 face-offs and has a 54.1% win percentage from teh dit this season. 

First-year Riley Walsh ranks 11th overall in power-play goals with two goals in 6 games. 

About the #10/11 Golden Knights:
Clarkson welcomes in Union on Friday evening. The Golden Knights have a four game winning streak with three wins against Syracuse and a win against St. Lawrence as well. Senior Darcie Lappan leads the team with 6 goals and 10 assists for 16 points in her first nine games. Michelle Pasiechnyk has appeared in six games posting a 1.00 goals against average and a .950 save percentage. 

Last Time They Played:
These teams last met on January 22, 2022 in a 4-0 win in favor of the Clarkson. Three different goal scorers found the back of the net. 

Historically Speaking:
Clarkson leads the all time series with a 35-1-0 record all time. Union's last win coming in 2011. 

About the Saints: 
The Saints welcome Union to Appleton Arena on Saturday afternoon. The Saints are 4-4-0 on the season  including a 1-1 record over the past weekend against Clarkson and Syracuse. Abby Hustler is the team's leading scorer posting a stat line of four goals, five assists, and nine points. Lucy Morgan has made seven starts for the Saints, posting a 2.42 goals against average and a .913 save percentage. 

Last Time They Played: 
St. Lawrence was victorious in the last match up in the North Country. The Saints topped Union 5-1. Emily King scored Union's lone goal. 

Historically Speaking:
Union is winless all time against the Saints.

ECAC Players of the Week:
Riley Walsh was named ECAC Rookie of the Week after scoring three goals in her first weekend series and helping Union to a 1-1 record over the weekend. Walsh scored twice in her collegiate debut, with goals coming on the power play and the shorthanded. She is the first player to do this for Union since 2006. She added her third goal of the season on Saturday afternoon against UNH. Walsh now leads the team in goals and points. 

Senior Emily King found the back of the net three times over the weekend and first-year Stephanie Bourque tallied three helpers to help the Union College women's ice hockey team post a 1-1-0 record against the College of Holy Cross. King was named ECAC Hockey Forward of the Week and Bourque earned ECAC Hockey Defensive Player of the Week. 

Captains: 
Senior Emily King will serve as the lone captain for Union, while Allison Smith, Meredith Killian, and Celeste Beaudoin will all serve as assistant captains for the upcoming season. 

U.S. National Team Assistant Coach Josh Sciba:
Union College head women's hockey coach Josh Sciba served as an assistant coach for the 2022 U.S. Women's National Team. The United States returned home from the 2022 IIHF Women's Hockey World Championships with a Silver Medal, following a 2-1 loss to Canada in the gold medal game.
