SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College women's swimming and diving team closed out the 2022 calendar year on Saturday afternoon against CSCAA #25 Amherst College, falling to the Mammoths by a score of 168-89 in the team's home opener at Alumni Gym Pool.
 
Going up against a nationally ranked Amherst team in the team's first competitive event in a month, Union put together several strong performances to give the team some momentum heading into the New Year.
 
First-year Kirin Lennon and senior Julianna Lisi both finished the year with season-bests. Lennon took second place in the 1000 freestyle by clocking in with a time of 12:51.80, while Lisi posted her best time of the season in the 50 freestyle, touching the wall in 28.26.
 
Sophomore Kristina Valenti picked up a pair of third-place finishes on the day, completing the 50 freestyle in 26.07 and the 100 freestyle in 57.26. Classmate Ally Gowern also earned a third-place finish by completing the 200 butterfly in 2:27.75, while fellow sophomore Meghan Seidberg grabbed third in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:41.53.
 
Union will ring in the New Year next Saturday with a tri-meet against Springfield College and Hartwick College beginning at 10:30 a.m. in Oneonta.
