SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – After an excellent start to the season, the Union College men's crew Varsity 8 is ranked 15th in the country in the latest Intercollegiate Rowing Coaches Association Coaches Poll, the IRCA announced Wednesday.
This is the first appearance in the national polls this season for the Dutchmen and believed to be the first-ever national ranking in program history. Union is one of three Liberty League teams appearing in the poll, joining Ithaca and RIT, who are ranked 11th and 12th, respectively. The Varsity 8 earned Liberty League Boat of the Week honors on Monday.
In two races this spring, the Varsity 8 has defeated Amherst College and Skidmore College. In the highly-competitive Head of the Fish Regatta in October, the team placed 15th in a race involving top Division I and Division III programs.
The nationally-ranked Dutchmen head to Saratoga Springs this weekend for the New York State Championships.
