SCOTIA, N.Y. – The Union College men's crew team opened its fall season at the 2025 Mohawk Fall Classic Regatta on Sunday afternoon.

It was a beautiful, sunny day for racing on the calm waters of the Mohawk River. The 3,700-meter course led boats past Union's home boathouse.

The Garnet Chargers sent three boats out on the water in the Collegiate 8+ race, which featured eight teams in total. Union's top-performing boat finished third with a time of 12:58.64. Sophomore Erika Canaveral served as the coxswain for the third-place boat along with senior Josh Atkinson (bow), junior Angus Hall (2 seat), senior Ben Stern (3 seat), senior Erik Roberts (4 seat), junior Stuart Livingston (5 seat), junior Tyler Perry (6 seat), junior Kenny Kromer (7 seat), and senior Sam Flynn (8 seat).

Finishing fifth, sophomore Elizabeth Canaveral was at the helm of the boat featuring senior Nick Meyer (bow), senior Jack Savage (2 seat), first-year Nicholas Sanza Stribling (3 seat), junior Reed Will (4 seat), junior Wolfgang Bodge (5 seat), sophomore Nikola Djurovic (6 seat), sophomore Ian Porter (7 seat), and sophomore Daniel Vega (8 seat). Canaveral's boat crossed the finish line in 13:44.42.

First-year Taekjin Jeong handled the coxswain duties for Union's novice boat which placed seventh with a time of 15:00.34.  Jeong was joined by seven other first-years in the boat with Thomas Unkles (bow), Jesse Balboni (2 seat), Nicholas Livingston (3 seat), Benjamin Kittelberger (4 seat), Benjamin Grassi (5 seat), Samar Rokkam (7 seat), and Nate Nguyen (8 seat), as well as junior Benjamin Tohanczyn (6 seat).

The Garnet Chargers are scheduled to travel west to Rochester, N.Y. for their next regatta on Saturday, Oct. 11 at the Head of the Genesee.
