SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College men's swimming and diving team defeated Liberty League rival Clarkson University 139-97 to move to 3-0 on the season on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Gym Pool.
The 3-0 record is the best start for the program since the 1989-90 season.
The 200-yard medley relay team of junior
James Javier Jr., senior
Matt Kenvin, sophomore
Drew Hill, and senior
Andre Thornton claimed top honors for Union with a time of 1:39.22.
Kenvin won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 48.44 and added a first-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:14.20.
Javier Jr. set a new personal best in the 200-yard backstroke to win the event with a time of 2:08.45. Senior captain
Andrew Boyd finished the race in 2:09.35 to claim second.
In the 1,000-yard free, senior
Zack Panlilio and junior Piacentini both set new season best times as they went one-two in the event. Panlilio placed first with a time of 10:23.32 and Piacentini took almost 30 seconds off of his time from last weekend. Panlilio and Piacentini also set new season best times in the 500-yard freestyle, finishing in first and third, respectively, with times of 5:03.71 and 5:23.20.
In an electric finish in the 200-yard freestyle, the first-year duo of
Winston Lee and
Gavin Baltes took the top two spots, respectively. Lee finished first with a season-best time of 1:50.15. Baltes also set a season-best with a time of 1:54.37, narrowly edging out Landon Colby of Clarkson at the wall by .07 seconds. Lee took top honors in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:04.89.
Senior
Bill Megas won the 400-yard IM in 4:24.47, just over 12 seconds faster than the second-place finisher.
On the boards, junior
Colin Farrell won the 3-meter diving and the 1-meter diving. Farrell earned 241.12 points on the 1-meter board and 171.52 points on the 3-meter board.
Union has a quick turnaround as they travel to Oneonta tomorrow morning to compete in the Hartwick Relays.
