Box Score 2 SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College men's tennis team took home two of the three titles at the annual Garnet Charger Invitational, held on Saturday and Sunday at the Union Tennis Courts.

Keita Fukushima had a big weekend for Union, going 4-0 in singles play to capture the "B" Singles bracket title, while also going 1-1 in the doubles bracket as well. Union's top doubles tandem of senior
Dimitris Binopoulos and junior
Ben Jacobs also took home the Doubles bracket title as well, going 3-0 over the two-day event.
After earning a bye in the first round, Binopoulos and Jacobs defeated Aidan Baracao and John Hill-Edgar of St. Lawrence University, 8-3, in the quarterfinals, to set up an all-Union semifinal against Fukushima and junior
Austin Gregory, who defeated Hamilton College's Anson Anderson and Connor Griff by an 8-6 score. Binopoulos and Jacobs earned team bragging rights by advancing to the final with a tight 8-7 (9-7) tiebreaker victory, and then earned the title by defeating SLU's Adam Heilbronner and Ben Moolman, 8-4.
Union had plenty of success in the "B" Singles bracket, with the team earning three of the four semifinal spots and both finals berths. In addition to a pair of byes, Fukushima and classmate
Shreyas Kode earned first-round wins, with Fukushima dispatching SLU's MJ Chaho, 6-3, 6-0, and Kode taking down Hamilton's Pius Lo, 6-4, 6-1. Fukushima defeated Hamilton's Neal Gupta, 6-1, 7-6 (7-4), in the quarterfinals and came back to defeat Ignacio Tran of Hamilton in a semifinal supertiebreaker, 4-6, 6-2, (10-5). Kode defeated Baracao by a 6-3, 6-4 margin and junior
Ian Schunk got past David to reach the semifinals, where Kode squeaked past his teammate, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3, to book a finals berth.
In a battle of Union newcomers, Fukushima came away with a pair of 6-3 sets over Kode to take the title.
Union also earned three first-round wins in the "A" Singles bracket as well. Senior
Khai Ton defeated Moolman by a 7-6 (7-5), 6-1 score to reach the quarterfinals, where he lost to eventual champion Connor Griff of Hamilton, 6-3, 6-4. Binopoulos started his singles bracket with a 5-7, 6-2, (10-8) comeback win over Charlie Sternberg of Hamilton before falling in a quarterfinal supertiebreaker, and the same fate befell first-year
Solen Bellemare, who started the weekend by defeating SLU's Cole Hamilton, 1-6, 6-2, (10-6) before coming up just short in the quarters.
Union will begin its dual match season on Wednesday, when the team heads to Bard College for a Liberty League matchup beginning at 4 p.m.
