#13 St. Cloud State Shuts Down Garnet Chargers

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – For the second season in a row, sophomore Riley Walsh opened the season scoring for the Union College women's hockey team with a power-play goal, but it wasn't enough as the Garnet Chargers fell to the #13 St. Cloud State University Huskies 6-1 on Saturday afternoon at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center.

First-year Kendal Davidson registered her first collegiate point with an assist on Walsh's goal and senior Meredith Killian also chipped in an assist.

The Huskies struck first with a pair of goals in the opening stanza. Dayle Ross scored on the powerplay at 14:46 before Emma Gentry added the eventual game-winning goal with less than 30 seconds to go in the period.

Union cut the game to one at 16:02 of the middle frame. After CC Bowlby was assessed two minutes for roughing, the Garnet Chargers only needed 47 seconds to capitalize on the player advantage with Walsh's first goal of the season.

St. Cloud State would score four times in the final 22 minutes to put the game away.

Junior Sophie Matsoukas earned the start for the Garnet Chargers and made 30 saves. Jojo Chobak stopped 19 shots in the win.

The Garnet Chargers look to split the series with the Huskies on Sunday. Puck drop is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Eastern at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center.
