SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College men's hockey closed out the weekend with a 4-2 loss to Yale University Saturday evening at Messa Rink.

After a scoreless opening period that saw Yale outshoot Union 9-8, it was the visitors that struck first in the middle frame with a power-play tally at 6:19. David Chen sent a one-timer from the center of the right-wing circle that went over sophomore
Kyle Chauvette's shoulder.
The third period saw a pair of lead changes before Yale put the game on ice. Buhr scored the equalizer at 4:06 of the final stanza. Tupker sent a backhanded pass behind the net to Buhr and the sophomore sent it home from the doorstep. Union took a 2-1 lead at 11:17 of the period. Korpi attempted a wraparound shot that bounced off of Jack Stark's pad and Smedsrud buried the rebound for his team-leading eighth goal of the season.
Yale potted a pair of goals in a span of 51 seconds to retake a one-goal lead. Union pulled Chauvette in favor of the extra attacker, but a turnover in the neutral zone saw Ian Carpentier gain possession and send one into the empty net.
Chauvette made 24 saves in the loss. Stark stopped 27 shots, including 15 in the third period.
Union continues the homestand on Friday with a conference matchup with Clarkson University. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Messa Rink.
