Third Period Rally Gives Union Win at Stonehill

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Trailing 2-1 going into the third period, three different skaters found the back of the net in the final period to give the Union College men's hockey team a 4-2 win against Stonehill College on Friday night at Bridgewater Ice Arena.

Sophomore Jacob Jeannette scored his first collegiate goal as part of a two point (1-1-2). Junior Parker Lindauer also recorded two points (0-2-2) in the win. Juniors Carter Korpi and John Prokop scored a goal for the second consecutive game while senior Josh Nixon tallied his first goal of the season.

As a team, Union won 51 of 74 faceoffs with first-year Drew Sutton leading the way with 16 faceoff wins. Union outshot Stonehill 45 to 26.

Nixon opened the scoring at 3:56 of the first period with his first goal of the season. The senior sent a wrister from the right circle to beat Stonehill goaltender Linards Lipskis.

The Skyhawks struck twice in the second period to take a 2-1 lead after 40 minutes. Conor Ronayne scored at 9:08 of the middle stanza to tie the game at one. Henri Schreifels scored a short-handed goal on a breakaway opportunity to go up 2-1 with 38.6 seconds to play in the second period.

The visitors responded back only 1:55 into the second period with Korpi's second goal of the season to knot the game at two apiece. The junior sent a wrister from high in the slot to beat Lipskis. Jeannette broke through later in the frame with the eventual game-winning goal. Junior Colby MacArthur bounced the puck off the wall to Prokop and the blueliner chipped the puck over to Jeannette on the doorstep. The sophomore center tapped the puck home to put Union up 3-2. Prokop scored his second goal in as many games with just under 90 seconds to play. A faceoff win saw the puck cleanly back to Prokop who fired the one-timer for the insurance marker.

Junior Kyle Chauvette earned his second win of the season with 24 saves against the Skyhawks. Lipskis made 41 saves including 21 in the third period.

Union is back in action tomorrow at #3 Boston University. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Agganis Arena.
