NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The Union College women's swimming and diving team split at the SUNY New Paltz Tri-Meet on Saturday, defeating the host Hawks by a 174-80 score but dropping its first meet of the season to Kean University, 184-70.
Sophomore
Jess Konsky took second in the 100 backstroke, finishing in 1:03.80, less than a second ahead of senior
Kristina Valenti in third place (1:04.80). Konsky also grabbed a third-place finish in the 100 freestyle, clocking in with a Union-best time of 57.82 seconds. Valenti finished second in the 200 IM as well, ending in a time of 2:23.91.
Union also earned a runner-up finish in the 50 freestyle courtesy of junior
Alison Silver, who took second with a time of 26.82 seconds. Senior
Meghan Seidberg finished second in the 200 breast as well, touching the wall in 2:41.53.
The Garnet Chargers finished two-three in the 100 butterfly, with sophomores
Chloe Matthews and
Samantha Picciotti finishing in 1:05.61 and 1:07.74, respectively.
Union ended the day with a runner-up finish in the 200 free relay, with the quartet of Matthews, Valenti, Silver and Konsky combining for a time of 1:46.35.
Union will be back in the pool next Saturday with a 1 p.m. meet at Skidmore College.
