PRINCETON, N.J. – The Union College men's hockey team tied Princeton University 2-2, but fell in the shootout for the extra ECAC Hockey point, on Saturday night at Hobey Baker Rink.
Union (13-14-3, 7-8-3 ECAC Hockey) earns a point in the shootout loss and remains in fifth place in the league standings.

Colby MacArthur both scored on the powerplay for the Garnet Chargers. Sophomore
John Prokop led all Union skaters with two assists on the night. Robertson's power-play tally was the 19
th of his career, which ties him with Mario Valery-Trabucco '10 for sixth place on Union's Division I career power-play goals list.
Union went 2-for-6 on the powerplay and a perfect 4-for-4 on the penalty kill.
The opening frame put two of the top-ranked special team units to the test. Princeton entered the night with the second-best power-play unit in the nation with a 32.4% conversion rate. Union's penalty kill unit, which has been the top-three in the nation since November 9, killed off both of Princeton's power-play chances in the first period. Union also generated several short-handed opportunities, but first-year Arthur Smith held off all 15 shots the Garnet Chargers sent his way.
The Union powerplay struck twice to give the visitors a 2-0 lead in the middle frame. Prokop sent a pass from the left-wing circle to Robertson on the doorstep and the senior tapped in the puck for the power-play score. MacArthur registered his second goal of the season with under 90 seconds to play in the middle frame. Senior
Tyler Watkins sent a cross-ice pass to MacArthur in the center of the left-wing circle and the sophomore sent the one-timer past Smith.
Princeton struck back early in the third period. Skating 4-on-4, Nick Carabin fired a shot on net and a diving Nick Sietz poked the rebound across the crease. Carabin sent the puck past sophomore
Kyle Chauvette for the score. The Tigers pulled Smith in favor of the extra attacker and tied the game with 41.5 seconds remaining in regulation.
The overtime period saw Union put five shots on goal, but it was not enough as Smith held on to force overtime. Adam Robbins scored for the home team to give Princeton the extra league point.
Chauvette made 27 saves while Smith stopped 36 shots.
Union is set to honor the ten-year anniversary of the 2014 national championship team on Friday night against Harvard. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Messa Rink.
