SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Union College men's crew team opened the spring season with the Class of 2022 Cup against Vassar College and Skidmore College on Saturday morning.

Facing chilly conditions with 13mph winds, the men's Varsity 8+ team was edged out by Skidmore by one second to finish the race in 6:52.9 seconds. Union's team was comprised of senior Tony Griffin (coxswain), first-year Angus Hall (stroke), junior Alex Chan (7 seat), senior Harrison White (6 seat), sophomore Benjamin Stern (5 seat), sophomore Erik Roberts (4 seat), senior Braman Cronin (3 seat), senior Giani DiGennaro (2 seat), and senior Cole Abdinoor (bow).

The 2nd Varsity 8+ boat finished in 7:13.3 seconds, only 0.8 seconds behind the Skidmore boat. Union's boat was made up of junior Sarah DeRosa (coxswain), sophomore Sam Flynn (stroke), sophomore Cody Morrison (7 seat), first-year Danny Bender (6 seat), first-year Stuart Livingston (5 seat), first-year Tyler Perry (4 seat), first-year Wolfgang Bodge (3 seat), junior Zach McConnell (2 seat), and sophomore Nick Meyer (bow).

The Varsity 4+ boat of junior Charlie Whiteford (coxswain), junior Josh Vaidman (stroke), first-year Kenny Kromer (3 seat), senior Ethan Conrad (2 seat), and sophomore Josh Atkinson (bow) finished in second with a time of 8:06.2.

Union is back home for the next two weekends. The Garnet Chargers host Amherst College on Saturday.
