SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Union College women's crew team put together a strong showing at the 2024 Liberty League Championships on Friday morning at Fish Creek.

Union's day was highlighted by the performance by the 2nd Varsity Eight boat. After coming in third in their heat with a time of 7:44.907, the team qualified for the grand final, where they placed sixth with a time of 8:09.580. Union's boat was made up of sophomore Melina McGovern (coxswain), first-year Sarah Hannan (stroke), senior Marlena Fornuto (7 seat), first-year Susanna Harrow (6 seat), first-year Olivia Werkema (5 seat), senior Ann Zhang (4 seat), first-year Emma Friedman (3 seat), first-year Amy Gagliardi (2 seat), and junior Claire Schroder (bow).

The Varsity Eight faced #6 Ithaca College, #14 Rochester Institute of Technology, and University of Rochester in the first heat of the Varsity Eight. Union finished fourth with a time of 7:31.345, just over 23 seconds back from Ithaca. Union went on to take first in the Varsity Eight Petit Final with a time of 7:41.006 which was 17.108 seconds faster than St. John Fisher University. Union's boat was comprised of senior Katie Riley (coxswain), sophomore Sadie White (stroke), senior Grace Parini (7 seat), junior Julia Cole (6 seat), junior Lena Nowell (5 seat), junior Sara Beckwith (4 seat), first-year Carly Thompson (3 seat), junior Olivia Anderson (2 seat), and senior Ella Tycz (bow).

Union closes out the season next weekend at the Dad Vail Regatta beginning on Friday in Pennsauken, NJ.
