CANTON, N.Y. – The Union College men's tennis team kicked off its 2024-25 season on Saturday with day one of the St. Lawrence University Fall Classic, held at the Sammis Tennis Courts on Saturday.
Union found its most success in the "C" Singles bracket. First-year
Vivaan Gupta won a pair of matches to advance to tomorrow's semifinals, knocking off Rochester's Surya Rajamani, 8-4, and St. Lawrence's Armaan Walia, 8-6. Sophomore
Solen Bellemare also earned one win in the bottom of the bracket, defeating RIT's Alexander Sinclair in a tiebreaker, 8-7 (8-6), before dropping an 8-5 match to Rochester's Haocheng Liu.
In the "A" Singles flight, senior
Ian Schunk dropped an 8-0 match to Hamilton's Connor Griff and first-year
Arhan Gupta fell to Rochester's Krish Vennam by an 8-3 score.
Both Union entries dropped 8-5 matches in the "B" Singles flight, with senior
Ben Jacobs falling to Rochester's Alan Wang and first-year
Jesus Sosa succumbing to Ithaca's Ivan Kisic. Y
Sophomores
Shreyas Kode and
Daniel Saxe both came up short in "D" Singles action, with Kode falling in a tiebreaker to Rochester's Joshua Chu, 8-7 (7-4), and Saxe falling to Hobart's Tarang Malhotra, 8-2.
Union will be back in action on Sunday for day two of the SLU Fall Classic beginning at 8:30 a.m.
