SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College men's swimming and diving team closed out the home portion of the 2024-25 schedule this afternoon with a 153-76 loss to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Sunday afternoon at Alumni Gym Pool.
Prior to the meet, the Garnet Chargers honored the three members of the class of 2025:
James Javier Jr.,
Tony Piacentini, and
Walter Kraus.
The meet started off on an electric note with the 200 medley relay team edging out the rival Engineers at the wall by 0.15 seconds with a time of 1:39.37. Union's first-place team was made up of first-year
Nick Megas, Javier Jr., Kraus, and junior
Drew Hill.
Hill earned two individual wins on the afternoon in the 50 free and the 100 fly. The junior clocked a 22.03 in the 50 free before posting a 51.62 in the 100 fly.
Megas continued his strong rookie campaign with a win in the 200 free. Coming down to the wire, Megas out-touched RPI's Jake Fassora at the wall with a time of 1:48.22 to win the event by 0.29 seconds. Megas went on to place second in the 100 free with a time of 48.69.
Piacentini earned second in the 1000 free with a season-best time of 10:21.67 then registered his second season-best time of the day in the 500 free to finish in 4:58.10.
Javier Jr. finished in third in the 100 back with a time of 58.27.
First-year
Brayden Green recorded a season-best time of 55.18 in the 100 fly to place third. Green also added a third-place finish in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:04.09.
Union closes out the regular season on Friday at Vassar College. The first event is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. at Kresge Pool.
