Stephanie Bourque Named ECAC Hockey Defensive Player of the Week

CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. - Junior Stephanie Bourque of the Union women's hockey team was named ECAC Hockey Defensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week, the conference announced Tuesday morning.

Bourque had a three point weekend including tallying an assist on senior Maren Friday's game tying goal in Friday night's 2-1 conference win against Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Bourque also recorded a goal and an assist on Klara Kenttala's game-opening goal during Saturday afternoon's Capital District Mayor's Cup victory over RPI.

Friday night's win was a critical victory for the Garnets Chargers who are in the race for a top eight seed and home ice advantage in the first round of ECAC conference playoffs.

Bourque's goal in Saturday afternoon's Mayor's Cup contest tied her for first for the single season record of most goals amongst blueliners with seven.

The Mayor's Cup win also marks the first time women's hockey has ever swept RPI 3-0 in a season.

Union continues ECAC play and travels to Brown University and Yale University in a critical weekend. The Bears and Bulldogs sit just .5 points ahead of Union in the conference standings. The Garnet Chargers currently sit in ninth in conference standings and look to jump to eight or higher for home ice advantage in the first round.

Puck drop is set for 6:00 pm on Friday night at Meehan Auditorium in Providence and 3:00 pm at Ingalls Rink in New Haven.
