Women's Swimming & Diving Falls to Skidmore

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College women's swimming & diving team competed against Skidmore College at Alumni Gym Pool on Saturday afternoon, falling to the conference foe 212-79.

First-year Ali Sweeney was Union's only event winner, championing the 200 breaststroke with a 2:36.96. It was the first time she has swum the event this season, and she also placed third in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.71), fifth in the 200 individual medley (2:27.69), and competed on Union's second-place 200 medley relay team (1:57.56).

The Garnet Chargers started the meet with that second-place 200 medley relay, also featuring junior Jess Konsky, junior Chloe Matthews, and first-year Maggie Reale.

Konsky placed second in all four of her events. After leading off the 200 medley, she posted a 1:03.80 in the 100 backstroke, a 2:16.00 in the 200 backstroke, and also led off the 200 freestyle relay that completed its race in 1:46.58.

Matthews swam a 11:53.68 to place second in the 1,000 freestyle. She also posted a season-best in the 100 butterfly, finishing third (1:03.47).

Reale and first-year Mya Schattin joined Sweeney, Konsky, and Matthews as the five Garnet Chargers with multiple podium performances. Reale touched the wall third in the 50 freestyle (26.56), and Schattin placed third in the 200 freestyle (2:11.78). She was on the second-place 200 free relay with Konsky, Reale, and senior Alison Silver.

Sophomore Maggie Clifford earned a score of 150.83 off the 1-meter board, placing third.

The Garnet Chargers do not have another dual meet until Saturday, Jan. 3 in Amherst, Mass. against the Mammoths. Union will compete next at the Bomber Invitational, a three-day event hosted by Ithaca College beginning Thursday, Dec. 4.
