SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – For the 14th time in program history, the Union College football team will take part in the NCAA Division III Championships, as the Garnet Chargers earned one of 40 berths in the 2025 postseason and will face off with Muhlenberg College in the first round on Saturday, November 22.
Union will be making its second appearance in the NCAA Tournament in the last three years and third in the last six seasons. The team defeated #25 Delaware Valley University in the first round before falling to #7 Johns Hopkins University in the second round in 2023, and also reached the second weekend in 2019 as well.
"This team has the heart of a champion, something that can't be measured in polls or simple numbers," said head coach
Jon Drach. "The brotherhood that they have built around our historic tradition is the reason why we are Liberty League champions and headed to our 14th NCAA Tournament. I could not be more proud of how this group has earned it every day."
Union clinched one of the 27 automatic berths into the postseason with a 28-21 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Saturday, clinching the ninth Liberty League title in program history with a perfect 7-0 conference record, only the sixth 7-0 conference slate in Liberty League history and first since 2014.
Muhlenberg (8-2, 5-2 Centennial) earned one of 13 at-large berths into the NCAA Tournament this season after finishing third in the competitive Centennial Conference.
More information on Saturday's game and a full postseason preview will be available later in the week on UnionAthletics.com.
