TROY, N.Y. – Another school record from senior Cat Dacey led the Union College women's outdoor track & field team in its final tune-up before the conference championships, taking sixth place at the RPI Capital District Classic, hosted by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Friday afternoon at Ned Harkness Field and Track.
 
Union finished the day with 52 points, three back of Siena College in fifth and 12 ahead of SUNY Cobleskill in seventh. The Garnet Chargers boasted 16 season-best results and six career-bests to go with one Liberty League Championship qualifier.
 
Dacey saved the best for last on the evening, breaking her own program record in the seeded portion of the 1500 meters. The senior finished the nearly four laps in 4:41.10, taking almost a second off her own standard time set last season to finish third out of 13 runners. First-year Kyleigh Record (4:51.76) and sophomore Annabel Dobash (4:53.34) both earned top-10 times with career-best results in the event as well, placing ninth and 10th, respectively.
 
The team's two most productive events of the day came in the field, led by sophomore Ashley Sheldon and junior Grace Ardito in the high jump. Sheldon settled for second place by clearing 1.57 meters and Ardito placed fourth by clearing 1.47 meters on her third attempt. Sheldon earned a spot in the finals of the 100-meter hurdles to start the day, crossing the line in 15.64 seconds to take second in her heat and third overall in the prelims; she came back to run a 15.39-second final to again place third.
 
Union garnered 11 points in the javelin throw, paced by first-year Lauryn Johnson's season-best distance of 34.37 meters that earned her a second-place finish. Senior Lauren Armstrong also nabbed three points with a season-best 29.74-meter throw as well, while senior Sundee Kroyer joined her teammates in the top-10 with a season-best mark of 25.42 meters.
 
Senior Gabby Baker and sophomore Kat Doran finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 100-meter dash prelims to earn spots in the finals. Baker crossed the line in 13.29 seconds, followed closely by Doran in 13.32 seconds. Doran barely got the better of Baker in the final, as she blazed down the track with a career-best time of 12.88 seconds to place fourth, just ahead of Baker's fifth-place time of 12.93 seconds. Doran also added a top-10 finish in the 200-meter dash as well, finishing in 26.75 seconds to earn a spot at next week's conference championships.
 
In the 4x100-meter relay, the quartet of Doran, Sheldon, Baker and Ardito placed third in a season-best time of 50.23 seconds.
 
Sophomore Emilie Rosecan led four Union entries in the unseeded section of the 1500 meters, setting a new career best by crossing the line in 5:25.26. First-year Charlotte Knight was the first Garnet Charger to cross the finish line in the 800 meters, taking 13th in 2:37.78. Classmate Devon Hardy finished two seconds later in 2:39.80 to grab 16th.
 
Union will head to Rochester Institute of Technology next weekend for the Liberty League Outdoor Championships, beginning on Friday.
