NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. – Sophomore
Gillian Joseph and
Greta Maurer were recognized for their efforts leading the nationally ranked Union College women's lacrosse team in 2025 by earning spots on the IWLCA All-Empire Region Teams, the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association announced on Friday afternoon.
Joseph moves up to the first team after earning second-team laurels as a first-year, and she is the first Union sophomore to rack up All-Region selections in both of her first two years since Emily McGrail '15 in 2012-13. Maurer earns the first All-Region honor of her career with a spot on the second team and is Union's first All-Region midfielder since McGrail in 2015.
Joseph, who was named to the All-Liberty League first team, led Union in scoring with 46 goals and 28 assists for 74 points as a sophomore. She ranked second in the Liberty League in points per game, third in assists per game and eighth in goals per game on the season, while also chipping in 21 caused turnovers and 19 ground balls. The sophomore recorded at least three points in 15-of-17 games this season, including a career-high eight points in a win at #25 MIT on March 15 and a career-best six goals in a win at Skidmore on April 5. She has the fourth-most points ever of any player in their first two seasons at Union and will bring a total of 92 goals and 34 assists into her junior year, having already cracked the top-20 in career goals at the school.
Maurer finally earns All-Region recognition after picking up a third straight All-Liberty League second-team selection. The senior midfielder was arguably Union's most impactful player on both sides of the field, setting new career highs with 36 goals and 16 assists for 52 points while also controlling 56 draws, grabbing 27 ground balls and causing 17 turnovers. Maurer averaged five points per game during Union's postseason run, including a career-high five goals twice against RPI and Ithaca. She became the 16th player in program history to record 150 career points in the semifinal win at #11 William Smith and finished her stellar career with 94 goals and 63 assists, ranking eighth all-time in assists, 14th in points and 18th in goals at Union. She also graduates fourth in career draw controls (158) and 13th in caused turnovers (64) at the school.
With Joseph and Maurer leading the way, Union finished the season with a 13-4 record and a #24 ranking in the IWLCA Division III national poll, narrowly missing out on the program's first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2015.
