Three from Women's Lacrosse Named All-Liberty League

TROY, N.Y. – Three members of the nationally ranked Union College women's lacrosse team received All-Liberty League recognition from the conference's coaches after fantastic seasons on the field for the Garnet Chargers.

Sophomore Gillian Joseph was named to the All-Conference first team, while senior Greta Maurer and sophomore Anna Dembowski were picked for the second team.

After earning Liberty League Rookie of the Year honors last season, Joseph upgrades to All-Conference first-team recognition after leading Union in scoring with 46 goals and 28 assists for 74 points as a sophomore. She ranked second in the Liberty League in points per game, third in assists per game and eighth in goals per game on the season, while also chipping in 21 caused turnovers and 19 ground balls. The sophomore recorded at least three points in 15-of-17 games this season, including a career-high eight points in a win at #25 MIT on March 15 and a career-best six goals in a win at Skidmore on April 5. She has the fourth-most points ever of any player in their first two seasons at Union and will bring a total of 92 goals and 34 assists into her junior year, having already cracked the top-20 in career goals at the school.

Maurer earned her third straight All-Liberty League honor with a spot on the second team. The senior midfielder was arguably Union's most impactful player on both sides of the field, setting new career highs with 36 goals and 16 assists for 52 points while also controlling 56 draws, grabbing 27 ground balls and causing 17 turnovers. Maurer averaged five points per game during Union's postseason run, including a career-high five goals twice against RPI and Ithaca. She became the 16th player in program history to record 150 career points in the semifinal win at #11 William Smith and finished her stellar career with 94 goals and 63 assists, ranking eighth all-time in assists, 14th in points and 18th in goals at Union. She also graduates fourth in career draw controls (158) and 13th in caused turnovers (64) at the school.

Dembowski earns the first All-Conference honor of her career after an excellent sophomore season as a key member of the defensive unit. She ranked third in the Liberty League with a team-leading 54 ground balls on the year and her 25 caused turnovers also are third-best among conference players for a defense that allowed only 8.0 goals per game and ranked 15th in Division III by clearing at an 87.8 percent success rate. She earned Liberty League Defensive Performer of the Week honors after a dominant weekend in the North Country, combining for 16 ground balls and eight caused turnovers in wins at Clarkson and St. Lawrence.  In her first two seasons, she already has accumulated 85 ground balls and caused 37 turnovers.

The Garnet Chargers finished the season with a 13-4 record and a #24 ranking in the IWLCA Division III national poll, narrowly missing out on the program's first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2015.
