Austin Gregory and
Ben Jacobs and sophomore
Solen Bellemare had successful seasons on the court and in the classroom to represent the Union College men's tennis team on the 2024-25 Academic All-District Men's Tennis Team, selected by College Sports Communicators and announced last week.
To be nominated for College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA) Academic All-District honors, student-athletes must participate in at least 70 percent of their team's dual matches, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher, and reach sophomore athletic and academic standing at the school. All Academic All-District honorees are considered for advancement to the CSC Academic All-America ballot.
Jacobs is recognized for the third straight season and Gregory is honored for the second time in the last three years, while Bellemare earns his first CSC Academic All-District honor.
Jacobs was named to the All-Liberty League second team in doubles this season and combined for 16 victories overall playing primarily at first doubles and third singles for the Garnet Chargers. The economics major is a five-time All-Conference honoree over his four years on campus and finished his career with 31 wins in both singles and doubles play at Union.
Gregory played all over the lineup in doubles for Union as a senior, competing in a team-leading 21 matches and earning a team-best 10 wins on the year. An electrical engineering major, Gregory went 8-8 in dual-match play, including a 5-4 mark at the third flight, and also posted a 3-3 mark on the singles court as well. He finished his career 15-10 in singles play and added 24 doubles wins.
Bellemare led Union in total victories as a sophomore, posting a team-best 15-8 mark in singles action and chipping in seven doubles wins as well. The physics major went 10-6 in dual-match singles play, helped by a 5-5 mark at fourth singles, and also took home the "C" singles title at the Garnet Charger Invitational in September.
With the men's and women's tennis team's combined six honorees this year, Union student-athletes have now earned 248 Academic All-District honors since 2001.
