Sydney Alphabet and
Skylar Semon of the Union College women's tennis team were recognized for their play on the court and success in the classroom with spots on the 2024-25 Academic All-District Women's Tennis Team, selected by College Sports Communicators and announced last week.
To be nominated for College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA) Academic All-District honors, student-athletes must participate in at least 70 percent of their team's dual matches, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher, and reach sophomore athletic and academic standing at the school. All Academic All-District honorees are considered for advancement to the CSC Academic All-America ballot.
Alexis and Semon are both recognized for the second straight season, while Alphabet earns her first CSC Academic All-District honor.
Semon held positions in the top-two flights in both singles and doubles play for Union in her third season, finishing the year with 12 singles wins and 10 doubles victories to her credit. The sociology major has moved up from sixth to fourth to second singles over her three-year career so far and also made the move to second doubles this season after a pair of years at the third flight.
Alexis spent the year as one half of the team's top doubles tandem, appearing in 14 dual matches at the top flight and playing in 27 doubles matches overall, posting an 8-19 record. The biochemistry (Pre-Med) major also went 8-5 on the singles court for Union, including wins at fourth singles and sixth singles as part of a 2-1 dual-match mark.
Alphabet tied for third on the team with 14 singles victories in 2024-25, including a 9-8 dual-match mark playing primarily at the fourth-singles flight. The psychology (Pre-Law) major also finished second on the team with 11 doubles wins this season, helped by a 7-9 mark at the third flight.
With the men's and women's tennis team's combined six honorees this year, Union student-athletes have now earned 248 Academic All-District honors since 2001.
