DANBURY, Conn. - Senior
Brandon Buhr earned a spot on the ECAC Hockey Preseason All-League team, the conference announced Thursday.
Buhr is coming off a 28-point campaign in which he led the Garnet Chargers with 19 goals and was named to the All-ECAC Hockey third team as a junior. He posted five multi-point games last season and netted hat tricks against against St. Lawrence on Jan. 11 and Cornell on Feb. 8. He won the ECAC's forward of the week award after his second three-goal performance of the season.
The economics major is a two-time CSC Academic All-District at-large team honoree, an AHCA All-American Scholar, and a two-time member of the ECAC Hockey All-Academic team. Buhr will also serve as an alternate captain alongside
Parker Lindauer and captain
Nick Young.
Buhr is the second Union player to garner preseason recognition from the conference in as many seasons. His former teammate
John Prokop earned preseason All-ECAC honors ahead of the 2024-25 season coming off a 2023-24 AHCA All-America East second-team performance.
This also marks the first time in nine years the Union men's hockey team has been represented on the ECAC's preseason squad in consecutive seasons. Mike Vecchione '17 garnered the recognition on back-to-back occasions at the outsets of the 2015-16 and 2016-17 campaigns.
ECAC Hockey also released its annual preseason poll, with Union earning its highest position in the rankings under head coach
Josh Hauge. The Garnet Chargers were picked fifth with 93 points. Quinnipiac paced the league with 129 points and nine of the 11 first-place votes.
Union had been picked eighth during the preseason in all of Hauge's first three years at the helm. Last season, the Garnet Chargers outdid their eighth-place ranking, posting a 19-14-3 record and earning a top-four finish in the ECAC Hockey standings with a 12-8-2 conference mark. It was the program's most conference wins in a season since 2017-18 and the sixth most in Union's Division I era.
Union opens its 2025-26 campaign on Saturday, Oct. 4 at 5 p.m. against Army West Point, marking the team's inaugural game in the brand-new M&T Bank Center at Mohawk Harbor. Fans can buy tickets for Union men's and women's hockey games
